About image ocr

Recognise text in screenshots and scans without uploading. Runs entirely on your device. It sits in the image shelf alongside 168 other image tools, needs no account, and keeps the same behaviour whether you open it here or call it through the REST API.

It takes any image and gives back plain text you can copy. It uses a model we host ourselves, not a third-party API. The work happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded and the tool keeps working offline. The same operation is available programmatically at POST /v1/image/ocr.

Image OCR questions

Does Image OCR upload my file?

No. Image OCR runs as WebAssembly inside this browser tab: the file is read from your disk by the page, processed on your own machine, and handed straight back. It is never sent anywhere, so there is nothing for us to store or delete.

What files can I use with Image OCR?

Any image file your browser can read. The limit is 100 MB per file.

Can I run Image OCR on several files at once?

Yes. Image OCR takes one file at a time, so selecting several runs it once per file, one after another, and you get a result for each.

Do I need an account to use Image OCR?

No. Image OCR works without signing in, and that is not a trial — it is how the free tier works. An account only matters for things that need one to exist at all: larger server jobs against your quota, API keys, saved workflows and billing.

Can I run Image OCR from my own code?

Yes. Every tool on the site is reachable from the REST API with the same slug — `image-ocr` — and the same options as this page, so anything you can do here you can automate against your own files.
