One cookie is required for the site to work at all: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is set only after you sign in, is HttpOnly and Secure, and carries no profile data — just an opaque identifier we exchange for your account server-side.
Two preferences live in your browser rather than in a cookie: your theme and your cookie choice itself. Pinned tools and tool history are local too — pins in localStorage, history in IndexedDB — and are never transmitted to us.
Pages carry advertising slots. If you accept all cookies, Google may set its own cookies to personalise what you see and to measure it. If you choose essential only, those slots stay non-personalised and Google is not given permission to profile you through this site.
Nothing advertising-related loads until you answer the banner — no ad script, no ad cookie and no ad request is made on a first visit before you have chosen.
You can change your answer whenever you like. The control sits in the footer of every page, and choosing again replaces the previous choice immediately. Clearing your browser storage clears it too, and the banner will ask once more.
Blocking cookies entirely does not break the in-browser tools. They run locally and never needed an account, a session or an upload to begin with.
